Filter bubbles

  • Are filter bubbles a good thing?
  • What are some problems that filter bubbles might cause for your academic research?
  • What do you think of the suggestions for getting out of the filter bubble? Are you going to try any of them?

I think that limited filter bubbles can be a good thing. I enjoy getting on the web and some of the things being directed at me. I think that sometimes it could save a little time. During academic research i could see where filter bubbles could be a bad thing. It could feed you with biased results. But at the same time limited filters help us find info faster. So i think that limited bubbles or bubbles with custom options would work the best. I think that if you are going to be looking up something you would not want people to know or find out about, you should take your own safety precautions. If I ever look up something that I would not want being recorded I use tor. I also sometimes use the incognito option. I also clear my cookies every once in a while. It is pretty scary that google saves all our information and knows so much about us. I hope that filter bubbles do dont become so advanced that they block out all of the info people do not want to see. If that happens then people would become uneducated and very bias. Hopefully soon google and other websites will give us the option to choose what we want filtered out and what we do not. I think that the logarithm can only do so much and will hopefully not become to advanced.
